Covid Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain

By Claire

Many people have reported back, neck and shoulder pain following a Covid infection. This is very important information to understand as you recover.

Why does it happen?

Periods of illness often mean more time spent resting, lying down or sitting in one position. Reduced activity, combined with the body's response to infection, can leave muscles feeling weak, stiff and sore. For some, working from home has also meant less-than-ideal desk setups, adding further strain to the neck and shoulders.

Supporting your recovery

As you begin to feel better, gentle and gradual movement is key. The NHS advises pacing yourself and slowly rebuilding activity levels rather than doing too much too soon. Helpful steps include:

  • Gentle stretching and mobility exercises
  • Gradually increasing daily activity
  • Improving your working posture and desk setup
  • Staying hydrated and resting well
